How to Stop Jumping Up the ACE Way

When a dog jumps up they, like children, are seeking affection with a demanding behavior. This can become a negative touch reward as most people push them off, or scold them.

The easiest way to stop your dog from jumping up is to have them learn to sit for everything they like. This means that when your dog is seeking affection when greeting people, we want him to sit.

This uses the simple behavioral modification technique called counter conditioning. This is the art of teaching your dog to master an automatic sit for affection rather than jumping up.

To put this in practical terms, and cure the jumping up problem, we get the dog to learn to sit for all things of value, either reward or affection. If you are consistent with this, it becomes an automatic response even when meeting and greeting people.
